This is my customary notice to friends, family, and lurkers, alike, that I am taking a social sabbatical. In the past, my breaks have been between a week and a month, but this time, I’m just going with what feels right. Could be days, could be months. We’ll find out together.
If you’ve been around a while, you know not to panic. I do this from time to time and always come back better for having stepped away.
For those who haven’t been through my digital detoxes in the past, here’s the run down. I will be eschewing technology to help clear my brain, refocus on my own goals, and allow my imagination to run amok. As a writer and as a human, this down-time is necessary.
I’m still available through text and email, but any attempts to contact me through Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter will not reach me until this is all over. I also ask that, if you text me, don’t tell me some horrifically catastrophic news, as that’s the sort of emotional toxicity I’m avoiding. If I can’t personally do anything about it, I don’t want to know.
Again, this is something I used to do fairly frequently, and I know it has a powerful affect on my creativity, my connection to the world around me, and my focus. And my dreams, strangely, but we’ll talk about that some other day.
Okay, here we go! See you on the flip-side. Nicole out!
